What To Eat In Georgetown

Exploring the local food scene is a must for us on our travels. You can find everything from authentic Mexican food, to pizza, to 5 star dining & more in Georgetow! Keep reading to see the locations we choose for each meal of the day. First, we’ll share our coffee & breakfast locations. Next, we’ll move on to lunch, dinner, and lastly, dessert!

Breakfast

Rivery Coffee House and Desserts: $
Monument Cafe: $$

For Breakfast, we chose two locations. First up, we chose coffee at Rivery Coffee House. Alongside many restaurants in Georgetown, Rivery is a woman & veteran owned shop. Sunlight shines through the floor to ceiling windows that overlook the outdoor patio area. Inside you’ll find vintage brick walls, mosaic tile floors & industrial bistro tables.

The smell of freshly baked pastries & hot coffee fill the air walking through the doors. Rivery Coffee House offers curated desserts including cakes from Europe and chocolate truffles from Vermont, as well as specialty coffee & tea.

Friendly staff greet you when you arrive, and are eager to recommend their favorite items to try. We ordered a gluten free chocolate muffin, bacon, egg & cheese croissant with an amazing raspberry vinaigrette dressing – as well as a caramel latte & an americano.

As expected, everything was delicious! Even my picky eater enjoyed her breakfast sandwich, and ate the whole thing! Rivery Coffee House is a must-do for us in Georgetown, and we know you’ll love it too!

The second location we chose for breakfast was Monument Café. This locally owned, homegrown diner is located right off the Square, and was designed to resemble Texas’ roadside cafe’s of years past.

Arriving at Monument Café, it reminded me of the small diner I visited with my grandparents as a young girl. The bustling waitresses, clanking dishes & homemade food really had me in my feels. If there is a wait for a table, give the hostess your phone number & head over to Lark & Owl Booksellers (more on this below!)

Fun Fact: The Monument Café was featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives!

Ordering breakfast, we decided to try items all across the board. Brad ordered their famous Migas, I ordered the Eggs Florentine, Zoey ordered Biscuits & Gravy and Jordyn chose Avocado Toast. These items did not disappoint. The Monument Café has a wide range of breakfast, lunch & dinner items which makes it a great location for everyone in your family!

Lunch

Mikey V’s Tacos on the Square: $

If you know me, you know I LOVE Tacos. I could have tacos for every single meal & never tire of them. With that being said – we chose Mikey V’s Tacos on the Square for our lunch choice during our visit to Georgetown. The restaurant is located in the back of Mikey V’s Hot Sauce Shop on the Square. While we experienced a 20 minute wait for our food, time passed quickly & soon it was time for us to eat!

Dine-in seating for Mikey V’s is limited, with only a handful of tables inside and on their outdoor patio. After ordering, we found a small table on the patio to enjoy our meal. The menu at Mikey V’s is listed by item, instead of pre-selected meals. We liked this layout because we could mix & match the many different items we wanted to try!

The girls got cheese & chicken quesadillas, as well as chips & guac. Brad & I tried a few different varieties of tacos, including The Beef Birria, Al Pastor, Pop’s Crispy Taco, Beef Fajita & The Texan. All of these tacos were absolutely AMAZING! We loved the food at Mikey V’s so much – we seriously considered going back during our trip.

Dinner

600 Degrees Pizzeria: $$

Locally owned & located right on the Square, 600 Degrees Pizzeria is the place to be if you’re looking for unique North Beach pies, wings & craft beers. The fun bar atmosphere is perfect for a date night or for dinner out with the family. The unique pizza flavors and the sheer size of the slices set this pizzeria part from any others that I have visited. Traditionally, the girls stuck with gigantic slices of cheese pizza, while Brad & I tried something a bit different – and out of our comfort zone.

I tried “The Georgetown” – which featured Roma tomatoes. portabella mushroom, baby leaf spinach & smoked gouda cheese on basil pesto. Brad tried ‘The El Camino” which had some of his favorite ingredients – including Charbroiled chicken, real bacon, juicy chunks of pineapple & fresh cut basil topped with our signature hot sauce. Both of our slices were HUGE and DELICOIUS!

Making an effort to expand our palate during our travels, we decided to taste an Austin made Mead that ended up becoming our new favorite! Meridian Hive is sold on tap in the pizzeria, and by the can at the 600 Degrees Pizzeria Marketplace. Brad ordered a glass of the Honey Mead at dinner, which we both loved. It is sweet, smooth & tastes to me a bit like Moscato, which is my favorite wine! We are now on the hunt to find somewhere to purchase Meridian Hive here in Missouri!

Dessert

The Baked Bear: $$

Let me start by saying – I know Baked Bear isn’t a locally owned ice cream shop in TX. We have one in STL that I’ve always wanted to try & never end up making it there. Realizing there was a location on the square, we decided to give it a try.

The Baked Bear is a little pricey, for all 4 of us to have something separate it was around $30. Which feels like a LOT for ice cream! That being said, the items we picked were delicious – as expected.

Jordyn & I each had a ‘Bear Bowl’ which is a warm cookie topped with your choice of ice cream (Jordyn chose cookie dough ice cream to top her cookie, while I chose coffee ice cream with hot fudge) & toppings of your choice. Zoey enjoyed a scoop of Cookies & Cream ice cream, with Oreo & M&M toppings, while Brad chose their signature ice cream sandwich. He had the Cookie Monster cookies & ice cream, with delicious white chocolate chips!

However, the price for these 4 items were a bit of a shock, the flavor & atmosphere made up for it in the end.

Where To Play In Georgetown

Inner Space Cavern: $$$

Inner Space Cavern was discovered by accident in the Spring of 1963, as a result of the Texas Highway Dept testing ground stability for a I-35 overpass. To this day, you can view the 2ft wide & 30ft deep hole the Highway Dept used to gain access to the newly found cave.

Today, Inner Space Cavern is a famous tourist spot, located right off I-35 in Georgetown. We want to give a HUGE shoutout to Visit Georgetown for providing tickets for our family to visit & explore Inner Space Cavern.

In terms of caves, our family hasn’t visited many. Brad & I have been to Meramec Caverns outside STL a few times throughout our childhood, but Jordyn has only been once – and Zoey has never been! Overall, this was a unique & unfamiliar experience for us. With that being said, we really enjoyed the cave tour, learning about how the cave was found & getting to see the ‘Discovery Hole’ where the scientists were lowered into the cave back in 1963. Our tour guide really knew her stuff about the cave, and even showed us a few hidden spots located inside! Favorites included the ‘Ice Cream Parlor’ as well as experiencing the cave in complete darkness (for only a few seconds!)

While visiting the cave can be pricey ($22.95 for ages 13yrs+ & $16.95 for ages 4-12) this cave tour does not disappoint. There is also a gift shop, snack bar, gold mining experience, zip line & extended cave tours you can find at Inner Space Cavern. This location really has something for everyone!

Creative Playscape: FREE

The Creative Playscape, located at San Gabriel Park is a newer addition to Georgetown. The park features 6 sections dedicated to the unique history of Georgetown. A special piece in honoring the past was the inclusion of the history wall from original structure from 1993 into the new site. If you’re traveling with kids, this is definitely a location to check out!

Unique Things To Do In Georgetown

Mural Hunting: FREE
Although we didn’t find them all, hunting for murals was one of the first things we did when exploring the city. Lately I have found a love for street paintings, and the ones in the Square did not disappoint!

Driving around the Square, we stopped at every mural we saw to take photos. This is something you can do with your family for free and makes great memories!

Lark & Owl Booksellers: $$

This adorable bookshop & bistro is located right next to Monument Café. Find yourself waiting for a seat at Monument? Around the corner, you’ll find Lark & Owl Booksellers, where you can wait for your table to be ready. Offering a wide variety of books, unique gifts & a bistro selling coffee & light snacks, checking out this quirky little shop is worth the time.
